How can Nepalese Work in Japan?
Currently there are two convenient ways for Nepali to work in Japan.
1. Specified Skill Worker (SSW)
2. Technical Intern Training Program (TITP)
1. SPECIFIED SKILL WORKER (SSW)
Effective April 2019, the new specified skills visa or tokutei ginou visa, 特定技能 was implemented in Japan as a solution to the ongoing workforce crisis. That implies that there will be a significant increase in demand for foreign workers approximately 260,000 to 340,000 from April 2019 up to the year 2024. This means that the new specified skills visa will greatly impact the company/ business production with their financial growth. On the other hand, this also means more chances of employment for Nepali skilled workers and professionals who want to work in Japan.
Steps for SSW
(i) Visa for Nepali
First Classification: (SSV-1)
Specific Skills Visa-1 with Five Years of Renewable Visa
- Must pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test JLPT N4 or JFT Basic (A2)
- To Give JFT Basic exam, Student must create Prometric ID and apply for Lucky Draw on given dates. If Selected in Lucky draw, students can appear for exam.
- Must pass the Skill Test for opted Specified Industry
- Foreign workers can stay and work in Japan for a maximum of 5 years
- Workers under this classification are not eligible to bring their families in Japan
- After gaining enough experience in Japan, workers under this category can be able to apply for the nonstop renewable visa so to have the benefits of the second classification
2. Technical Intern Training Program (TITP)
The objectives and purpose of the Technical Intern Training Program are to transfer skills, technologies, or knowledge (“Skills etc.”) accumulated in Japan to developing and other regions and to promote international cooperation by contributing to the development of human resources who can play roles in the economic development of those developing regions. The particulars of the Technical Intern Training Program are intended to form employment relationships between corporations, sole proprietors, and other businesses in Japan with technical intern trainees so that the trainees can acquire, master, or enhance Skills etc. that would be difficult to acquire in their home countries. The training period is a maximum of five years, and acquisition of Skills etc. is conducted pursuant to technical intern training plans.
Steps for TITP:
• Study Japanese Language preferably N4 Level
• Select an Industry for Training from 14 Specified Companies
• Job Interview
• Training in Nepal (160-200hrs)
• Orientation and Training in Japan (1st Month)
• Start Training in Japan.
Move from Trainee to SSW
• After completion of 3 years of training (Specialized grade) in Japan, a trainee may convert the trainee status to specified skill worker.
• If a trainee has previously passed JLPT N4, trainee may give skill test in Japan in the selected specified industry and change trainee status to SSW at any time.
